Old Fashioned Chicken and Dumplings

1 Disjointed hen
2 c Flour
2 ts Baking powder
1 ts Salt
1/3 c Shortening
1/2 c Milk

Cover chicken with water & add salt. Simmer until tender. Remove. Sift flour, baking powder & salt. Cut in shortening. Add milk to make stiff dough. Roll until thin & cut into 1-inch squares or 1 to 1-1/2 inch strips or diamonds. Sprinkle lightly with flour & drop into boiling chicken stock. Cover tightly & boil gently for 30-40 minutes. Add prepared chicken & continue to cook until chicken is hot. Yields 6-8 servings.
